DPL Pays Tribute to Allama Iqbal’s Rebel Spirit with Bazm-e-Jahan
DPL Rebels celebrated Allama Iqbal’s life and legacy in style this December. The event, aptly named Bazm-e-Jahan, was a vibrant and joyful tribute to the visionary poet and philosopher.
With his picture and poetry gracing the walls of DPL, Allama Iqbal is one of the visionaries inspiring the workforce.
“Allama Iqbal was indeed a ‘rebel’ in the intellectual and ideological sense,” explained CEO Syed Ahmad. “He challenged established norms and advocated for a transformation in the social, political, and spiritual fabric of the Muslim community and the Indian subcontinent at large. Iqbal’s philosophy also inspired liberation from external subjugation and internal stagnation, making him an inspirational rebel.”
The Poet of the East further rejected Western materialism, critiqued outdated traditions, and called for a dynamic, progressive way of life. His poetry inspired resistance against oppression, emphasized individual empowerment, and envisioned the creation of Pakistan.
Bazm-e-Jahan flaunted a touch of nostalgia with DPL Rebels encouraged to don their best 80s-inspired traditional attire. The room was filled with colorful shalwar kameez, stylish shawls, and even iconic hairstyles from the era. Further accentuating the vibe were decorative elements thanks to the Culture Committee’s dedicated members.
The event kicked off with a Team Slogan Showdown. Each of DPL’s teams presented creative slogans highlighting their spirit and pride.
This was followed by a thrilling spinning wheel activity, where they had to come up with poetry lines starting from the word the wheel landed on. The energy in the room was electric, with teams cheering each other on and having an absolute ball.
What was truly remarkable, however, was seeing the artistic side of each house as they poured their hearts and souls into their performances. Rebel exhibited high levels of passion, creativity, and talent, which is what we’ve grown accustomed to seeing in code.
Another activity in the Bazm-e-Jahan event was the Iqbal’s Vision Quiz & Poetry Challenge. Teams competed in a fun quiz and poetry round, demonstrating their knowledge of Iqbal’s life, wisdom, and revolutionary ideas.
Team Anarchists took home the top prize, winning the games hands-down with their creative genius, quick thinking, and unstoppable energy. The event then concluded with our customary birthday celebrations.
